The West / Simon Cox

Greetings ladies and gentlemen (the term is to be loosely applied),

Wow - what an overwhelming response to the first email. Thank you for all the kind notes, text messages, and callus unsubscribes. Don’t worry, my Christmas card list has been culled.

All kidding aside, not a single person unsubscribed, and, for those interested, the last email generated 26 email responses and 8 meetings. This led me to connect 6 different people to the possible resources they needed. The instant gratification I get from being able to help people is the reason I bore you with these emails.

Recently, we caught up with old friends from Pennsylvania here in Tucson at an Italian restaurant on a Friday evening. As the evening wore on, we noticed that the other people in the restaurant kept staring at us each time we laughed loudly or talked over one another in excitement. It was obvious that we were at the table everyone was scoffing at as they quietly (which felt like silently) ate their food.

Difference between the East and West Coast #42 - East Coast people are way louder than their Western counterparts. Apple Watch confirmed this notion. It regularly informs me that I am in a loud environment when I do nothing but listen to music and talk. Clearly, it has recalibrated to the West as it never used to mention anything before.

This month I would like to introduce you to an extraordinary talent.

Si Cox is a photographer, videographer, and former pro-skater.

Simon Cox & Si Cox LTD

Growing up, Si was always pushing the limits. While the rest of us were playing football with two jumpers as goalposts, he was building skateparks and filming extreme athletes doing mind-bending tricks. Funnily enough, in a recent conversation, he was explaining that he was trying to get a particular shot of a peloton of bikes. He ended up doing the shot wearing his rollerblades whilst holding a camera in the middle of the peloton. How many Directors of Photography have the physicality and the skill to pull that off?

His love of the outdoors means he is drawn to brands and companies that send him off to the most beautiful locations on earth. His adventurous spirit and humility make him a one-in-a-million talent to be around.

If you want to see what living in picturesque, rural England with a young family, motorbikes, and camper vans looks like, follow him on Instagram.

For all the advertising folks on the list, if you are interested in working with Si, check out his work here.
